Roughrider Genetics® is a trademarked brand name established solely for the marketing of licensed or proprietary varieties, developed by the experienced, dedicated breeders at NDSU, and owned and managed by the NDSU Research Foundation (NDSU/RF).
The first products released through Roughrider Genetics® are Roundup Ready®
soybean varieties, which are produced and marketed by licensed seed producers.
NDSU, under research agreements with Monsanto,
has developed Roundup Ready® soybean varieties under the direction of
Dr. Ted Helms, NDSU soybean breeder.
RG200RR was released in 2002. It has
proven itself as an early maturing (0.0), high-quality performer even in tough
conditions. The early maturity and reliable yield, combined RG200RR’s
good protein and oil, have provided a good choice for many growers in the
region.
RG405RR was released in 2004, and also
contains the Roundup Ready® gene. Certified seed for RG405RR was first
available for the 2005 crop year. As a descendent of a proven conventional
variety, Barnes, RG405RR has excellent yield, along with superb root rot protection,
provided by the Rps6 allele.
